Speaking Shakespeare Like a Human
Finding his words in your voice
September 21 - November 2, 2015
The most important element in performing Shakespeare isn’t scansion, or diction. It isn’t a powerful voice or an imposing physical presence. It’s yourself, and the ways in which you can bring the unique, compelling person that you are into your performance. Your voice, body, scansion, and diction are important tools, but if they aren’t helping you to reveal your Self onstage then they aren’t serving you effectively.
This six-week course will focus on:
- Emphasizing honest, direct, person-to-person communication in scenes and monologues
- Allowing the meter and rhythm to serve you rather than restrict you
- Developing a performance physicality that looks and feels authentically you
Classes will be held Mondays from 7pm-10pm

“There is no more stage. There are no more footlights. You are among the people...These pieces were written in silence. The courage of the play is to speak them.”
